Meet Your Teacher

Hi, I'm Mrs. Akers

Hello everyone.  My name is Mrs. Akers.  I'd like to tell you a little about myself.  I grew up in Springfield, but I am a country girl now.  I have always liked math, so being a math teacher was a natural choice for me.  I graduated from Millikin University in 1973 and I have been in a classroom in one capacity or another ever since.  My husband Jim is a farmer and we have two sons, Logan and Glenn.  I started teaching at Newman High School in 1977.  When the boys were little (they are in their twenties and early thirties) and keeping me busy being a mom, I substituted in three different school districts.  Later, I went back to teaching full time and now I am happy to be at Shiloh.
