Embarras River Basin Agency Scholarship (ERBA)

To qualify, the applicant’s household income must meet 200% of the Federal Poverty Level and the applicant must be enrolled in an Illinois college, junior college, or university full time. Applicants must have at least a “C” average and a transcript must accompany the application.

American Legion Auxiliary Scholarships                                       Due March 1, 2010
Many scholarships available including Nurses Scholarships, Children and Youth Scholarships, Trade School Scholarships, and Illinois Scholarships for Junior Auxiliary members.  Nurses, Children, and Youth Scholarships are open to all students.  All others must be a veteran or the child or grandchild of a veteran to apply.  ALL HAVE SEPARATE RULES AND ELIGIBILITY.

American Legion Auxiliary National President's Scholarship   Due March 1, 2010 fifteen scholarships $1,500 - $2,500
Candidates for this award shall be daughters, step-daughters, sons, or step-sons, grandsons, granddaughters, step-grandsons or step-granddaughters of veterans who served in the Armed Forces during eligibility dates for membership in The American Legion.  Application placed in each senior's mailbox 2-2-10, additional copies may be picked up from Ms. Coffer.

AMVET's Scholarship Programs                                            Due March 1, 2010         $500 - $3000
Applications may be downloaded from website.  Paper applications were placed in each senior's mailbox 1-29-10; additional copies can be picked up in Ms. Coffer's office.

National Defense Transportation Association Scott/St.Louis Chapter        Due March 1, 2010    $2000 - $3500
Purpose of this scholarship program is to promote careers in Business, Transportation Logistics, and Physical Distribution.  Although all students may apply, preference will be given to students pursuing these and related courses of study.
Applications were placed in each senior's mailbox 1-14-10.  Additional applications can be downloaded are picked up in Ms. Coffer's office.

Township Officials of Illinois Scholarship                                  Due March 1, 2010        seven $2,000 scholarships
Graduating seniors must: have a minimum gpa of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, submit a 500 word essay, submit two letters of recommendation, submit an official high school transcript, submit a cover letter, and complete an application form.  Paper applications were placed in senior mailboxes 2-2-10, additional copies may be picked up in Ms. Coffer's office.  If you have questions, please call 1-866-897-4688.

Illinois Odd Fellow-Rebekah Scholarship Program  Due March 1, 2010  three $1,500 scholarships & ten $1,000 scholarships
The Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of Illinois, being aware of the financial need for many deserving students wishing to continue their education in any post-secondary school or and accredited vocational/technical school, is pleased to announce the continuance of their scholarship program.  Applicants need not be affiliated with the Independent order of Odd Fellows, but must be a resident of Illinois and a citizen of the United States.

American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) National Scholarships  Due March 5, 2010
The AAWCC will award a $500 student scholarship for a student in each of their 10 regions. 


Outstanding Diocesan Catholic Female High School Senior            Due March 13, 2010 
Applicants must be high school Catholic seniors.  Applicants need to prepare a cover sheet and 2 page typed resume.  Specific instructions were placed in each female senior's mailbox on January 13th.  Additional information sheets can be picked up from Ms. Coffer.

Shiloh Athletic Booster Club Scholarship                                        Due March 15, 2010        $500
Presented to eligible senior boy and girl who plan to attend a two or four year college in the fall of 2010. To be eligible, the student must have participated in a high school athletic program.  Each candidate is required to complete the application, as well as write and submit an essay titled, "How High School Athletics Have Had An Impact on Me".  Applications and essays are due by Monday, March 15th and may be placed in the Booster Club mailbox in the high school mailroom.  The Booster Club Scholarship Committee will conduct interviews the first of April with each candidate.  Applications placed in each senior's mailbox 2-16-10; additional applications may be picked up from Ms. Coffer.

SCV/MOS&B Scholarship                                                            Due March 15, 2010    $1000
Applicants must be a graduating senior, male or female, who resides in Illinois and will be enrolling in the fall at a community college, college, or university.
Eligibility requirements:
*    Be a descendant of a male who served honorably
*    Family lines must be documented genealogically with a descendency chart
*    Must submit a 500 word essay.
Application placed in student mailbox on 1-19-10.  Student may pick up additional applications from Ms. Coffer.

Edgar County Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarship                        Due March 19, 2010    
There are no restrictions on choice of college or field of study.  However, the applicant must be a dependent or spouse of an "M" or "Voting" member of the Edgar County Farm Bureau.  The applicant also may qualify by being an "M" or "Voting" member of the Edgar County Farm Bureau him/herself.  The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of exceptional scholastic ability, leadership, involvement in activities, and/or financial need.  If anyone should have a question about their membership status, they should contact the Farm Bureau office Monday - Friday, 8-12 and 1-4:30.  A copy of the application was placed in each senior's mailbox 1-29-10, additional copies are available in Ms. Coffer's office.

Cellular One                                                                            Due March 26, 2010    twelve $500 scholarships
$6,000 worth of scholarships to graduating seniors in the service areal.  Twelve $500 scholarships will be awarded to local high school seniors who are Cellular One customers or are the children or grandchildren of Cellular One customers.  Paper scholarship applications placed in senior mailboxes 2-2-10, additional applications are available in Ms. Coffer's office.

Children of Veterans Tuition Waiver                          application period December 1, 2009 - March 1, 2010                    4 yr consecutive tuition waiver for the University of Illinois (Urbana, Chicago, Springfield and Global campus).                     Go online to www.osfa.uiuc.edu click on "types of aid" and then "scholarships/waivers".                                             Contact (217) 333-0100 for questions.

Illinois Heartland Decorative Artists Scholarship                    Due March 30, 2010            $1,000

Kymanox's James J. Davis Memorial Schoarship for Students Studying Abroad    Due March 27, 2010    $1000            Selected winner will receive $1000 toward study abroad.        

Edgar County Bank & Trust Co.                                                Due April 1, 2010                                                         The following scholarships are due April 1st and are part of the Edgar County Bank & Trust Co. scholarship packet placed in each student's mailbox 3-1-10:  Edgar County Bank Foundation, Perisho-McConkey, Edward & Mildred English, Ripley Educational, and Watson Scholarship Trust.  Additional packets may be picked up from Ms. Coffer.

Carle Foundation Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship                  Due April 1, 2010        $1000 and $500

The Carle Foundation Hospital Auxiliary will award a $1,000 scholarship to a full-time student enrolled in an approved health care field and a $500 scholarship to a half-time student enrolled in an approved health-care field.    Applicants must be residents of Illinois. 

The Center for Athletic Injury Research (CAIR) Scholarship          Due April 1, 2010    $1000

CAIR will award a $1,000 scholarship to a full-time student enrolled in athletic training, nursing, pre-med, physical therapy or sports psychology.  Must be a resident of Champaign, Piatt, Vermilion, Ford, McLean, Douglas, or Edgar County. 

Farm Credit of Illinois "We Understand" Agricultural Scholarship Program  Due April 1, 2010   six $1000 scholarships

Edgar County Bank & Trust Co.                                                        Due April 1, 2010                                    Applicants must be residents of the area comprising of Edgar County and surrounding counties.  Awards are for 1 year only, and can be revoked if the recipient does not maintain a "C" average in college or if the recipient is involved in unlawful or disruptive behavior.  Scholarship application placed in every senior's mailbox on February 2, 2010.  Additional applications may be picked up in Ms. Coffer's office.

Eagles (Fraternal Order Of), Aerie #3438 (Mattoon)                application period March 15 - April 15, 2010

Scholarships are awarded to graduates in good standing from various high schools. Awards are made under the following criteria: 1.) Applicant must be a son or daughter of a Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3438 or Auxiliary of Fraternal Order of Eagles #3438 member in good standing of three or more years, 2.) Demonstrate financial need, 3.) Demonstrate academic achievement in prior schooling, and 4.) L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest            Due March 31        $500 and $4000                                    For students gifted in art and interested in fantasy or science fiction.

Illinois Lumber & Material Dealers Association Educational Foundation        Due April 1, 2010        $500 - $2000

Any student who is enrolled full time in a certificate or degree program in an accredited trade school, 2-year junior college, or 4-year college or university, and who is a resident of Illinois is eligible to apply.  Students may apply each year, up to four years.  While scholarship recipient selection will not be based solely on financial need, it may be taken into consideration.

Red Mask Players Jean Lewis Scholarship                                          Due April 10, 2010        $375/semester
The Red Mask Players will be awarding the Jean Lewis Scholarship.  Applicants must have an interest in pursuing the arts in college and participation in theater.  The applicant must be a full-time student with a commitment to complete their higher education.   The application process also includes an audition before the committee.


Illinois Sheriff's Association                                                        Due April 12, 2010                            $500
Awarded to an Edgar County student who will be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning within the State of Illinois.  Application placed in student mailboxes on 3-1-10; additional copies may be picked up from Ms. Coffer or downloaded.

Paris Community Hospital Volunteer Scholarship                 Due April 13, 2010                    two $1,000 scholarships
Available to any Edgar County senior who is furthering his/her education in the Health Care Field.  Applications given to all seniors 2-18-10; additional applications may be picked up from Ms. Coffer, admissions desk of Paris Community Hospital or Citizens National Bank of Paris.

Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship                                                               Due April 16, 2010            $500
This scholarship is available to women who are pursuing a degree in the field of education.  An application was given to each female senior 1-29-10. 
Additional applications can be picked up from Ms. Coffer. 

Henry (Iva W. and Roy) Scholarship                Due April 20, 2010     Six scholarships covering tuition & other related exp. Students must live in Edgar county. Michelle's Bridal Shoppe M2 Scholarship Giveaway            January 2 - May 1, 2010    two  $500.00 scholarships
The drawings will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 and Saturday, May 1, 2010 The winning students will then be notified.  If the winning student is selected from your high school, the scholarship award will be able to be presented at the awards ceremony at the end of the school year.  (Scholarship handout placed in student mailbox 12-2-09.)

Paris Noon Kiwanis Club Scholarship                                Due May 4, 2010                    $1,500

College Inventors Competition                                                            Due June 1, 2010        $10,000 - $25,000
Students applying for this award must invent something that is patentable and not currently available to the public.  Go online for more information.

Mabel Wells Fishback                                                 Due June 1, 2010                                                                   Applications will NOT be accepted prior to May 1, 2010 and must be postmarked by June 1, 2010.  Additional information is available in the Edgar County Bank & Trust Co. scholarship packet placed in each student's mailbox 3-1-10.  Additional packets may be picked up from Ms. Coffer.

Abbott and Fenner Business Scholarship                                        Due June 19, 2010          $1,000
The A&F Scholarships are available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution.  To apply for this scholarship you will need to write an essay on the topic below. The essay should be between 500 and 1000 words. Your submissions must be sent by email at: scholarships@abbottandfenner.com


Institutional Scholarships at Specific Colleges

Danville Area Community College

The DACC Scholarship Application is available on-line via the DACC website.    Students who are interested in downloading the application should go to http://www.dacc.edu/depts/foundation/.    A paper scholarship application was placed in each senior's mailbox 1-29-10; students can download additional copies from DACC's website in either WORD or .pdf format.   The deadline for submission is 5:00 pm, February 26, 2010.    A complete application includes the application form, an official high school transcript, personal essay and letter of reference.   Only complete applications will be accepted.   

National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors-East Central Illinois (NAIFA-ECI) Scholarship
In honor of Paul Brumaghim , a local insurance agent who passed away, NAIFA-ECI (National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors-East Central Illinois) sponsors 2 scholarships to students interested in pursuing a career in Business, Insurance or Financial Services field. Each scholarship will be no less than $250.00. For information or an application contact: Rick Rotramel at 431-8711. Submission deadline is April 1.



Eastern Illinois University

EIU Legacy Scholarship                                                         Due February 11, 2010
To be eligible, an applicant must:
*    Plan to attend Eastern Illinois University
*    Be a child or grandchild of an EIU graduate.
*    Have a minimum of a 4.0 GPA on a 5.0 scale.
*    Demonstrate enthusiastic and outstanding leadership as evidenced by hi/her involvement in extracurricular activities.

Applicants should send a letter, detailing how they meet the qualifications of this scholarship (including how she or he is related to an EIU alumni and if that person is a member of the EIU Alumni Association), include your home address and telephone number, two letters of recommendation and an official copy of their high school transcript to:

Oland Hanner Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Scholarship                Due March 15, 2010
Recipients of this scholarship must be enrolled full-time and have graduated from a high school in either Edgar County or Coles County.  Applications placed in senior mailboxes; additional copies may be picked up from Ms. Coffer.

Lake Land College                                                                       Due March 1, 2010

The Lake Land College Foundation Scholarship Application is available on-line via the LLC website.  For the convenience of the applicant and to expedite the process, students should apply online at www.lakelandcollege.edu/foundation.  Students only need to submit one application for all of the Foundation Scholarships. Students may submit a paper application if they prefer and Ms. Coffer has placed one in every student's mailbox on 1-29-10. 

I cannot stress enough the importance of the three short essay questions on the back page of the application.  The student's composite score of his/her answers is often the basis for the scholarship award.  Members of the Scholarship Committee continue to urge students to carefully answer the questions in detail and proof their work.      



SIU-E

SIUE Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship - The Alumni Association’s Board of Directors awards two full scholarships- one to a current undergraduate student and one to an incoming SIUE freshman- in addition to five $100 scholarships. The children, grandchildren, siblings and spouses of SIUE alumni who are current Alumni Association members are eligible to receive this award. Applicants are judged not only on their GPA and ACT/SAT scores, but also on their community service, after-school activities and financial need. Alumni who are not Association members but who have a son or daughter, grandchild or sibling who is interested in the SIUE Alumni Association Scholarship must become Association members prior to the receipt of the scholarship application. Stahlschmidt Family Legacy Scholarship - The Stahlschmidt Family Legacy Scholarship will award two $1,500 scholarships to incoming SIUE students. Applicants must be incoming freshman or transfer students to SIUE and must be enrolled full-time at the University. Applicants will be judged on financial need, GPA, ACT/SAT scores, community service, after-school activities and essay questions. Deadline to submit an application is February 26, 2010.
